'All of us' - An imaginary world of mystical beings
Sculptor, Sophie Ryder’s major new solo exhibition is on at the Lightbox Gallery, Woking. The show features Sophie’s signature sculptures in wire and bronze as well as previously unseen works on paper and mosaics, It explores Ryder’s interest in the human body, and her enduring connection to family and animals.
Sophie is well known for her spell-binding, fantastical figurative sculptures of creatures. Some with animal heads and human bodies; Some exquisitely crafted giant animals engaged in magical, otherworldly activities. Her Dancing Hares are currently on display at Wisley (image below).
Most local art lovers know the Lighbox Gallery & Museum as it’s just a 15 minute train journey from Surbiton. If you haven’t visited yet then Sophie’s exhibition is the perfect nudge. The gallery is in its 15th year – it’s light, spacious and purpose-built with a great cafe and shop. There are events, talks, classes and exhibitions throughout the year.
